Typhoid colitis.

چکیده
Salmonellosis is one of the commonest endemic diseases in Tropical Africa. Furthermore, typhoid fever is a disease that is unique to man with no other animal species acquiring an illness similar to man even after oral ingestion of the live jrganisms (Homick et al., 1970). Typhoid fever has a myriad of complications. Typhoid colitis is distinctly uncommon judging from the paucity of reports in the literature. We report two cases of typhoid colitis who had massive rectal haemorrhage, which should alert one to the possiblility of typhoid colitis. One of the cases developed myocarditis as well.

Live Typhoid Vaccine for IBD-Patients—Well Tolerated and with Possible Therapeutic Effect
Background: Our incidental observation of a remarkable improvement of disease activity following vaccination against typhoid in a patient with infl ammatory bowel disease (IBD) was the incentive of this pilot study. Methods: Ten IBD-patients (7 with ulcerative colitis and 3 with Crohn’s disease) with disease activity grade 2–10 on simple colitis index were included in the study. The use of 5-AS...
متن کاملChronic Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium-induced colitis and cholangitis in streptomycin-pretreated Nramp1+/+ mice.
Salmonella enterica subspecies 1 serovar Typhimurium is an enteric bacterial pathogen infecting a broad range of hosts. In susceptible Nramp1(-/-) (Slc11alpha1(-/-)) mice, serovar Typhimurium cannot efficiently colonize the intestine but causes a systemic typhoid-like infection. However, after pretreatment with streptomycin, these susceptible (C57BL/6 and BALB/c) mice develop acute serovar Typh...
متن کاملMassive gastrointestinal hemorrhage secondary to typhoid colitis: A case report and literature review
We present a case of massive lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage secondary to Salmonella enterica subtype Typhi (S. Typhi) colitis, in a 29 year-old female treated for S. Typhi bacteremia. One week post-treatment, she unexpectedly developed a large volume of rectal bleeding. Endoscopy showed colonic ulcers and ileitis, but no endoscopic hemostasis was required. Treatment was supportive with trans...
متن کاملPretreatment of mice with streptomycin provides a Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium colitis model that allows analysis of both pathogen and host.
Salmonella enterica subspecies 1 serovar Typhimurium is a principal cause of human enterocolitis. For unknown reasons, in mice serovar Typhimurium does not provoke intestinal inflammation but rather targets the gut-associated lymphatic tissues and causes a systemic typhoid-like infection. The lack of a suitable murine model has limited the analysis of the pathogenetic mechanisms of intestinal s...
متن کاملA Suggestion for the Production of Therapeutic Fever in General Paresis *
The production of fever for therapeutic purposes by the use of typhoid vaccine is well known. Various methods of administering the vaccine have been described. For example, Solomon2 has used the "divided dose" technic in which the vaccine is injected intravenously,. the same dose being repeated in one or two hours, if necessary, in order to maintain a temperature above 1040 F. for at least thre...
